Obituary for Jay L. Hollifield

Jay L.  Hollifield
Jay L. Hollifield, 81, of Swannanoa, passed away August 1, 2017.
Mr. Hollifield was born May 6, 1936 in McDowell County to the late Wilburn and Ada Hollifield. Jay was an active member of Swannanoa Free Will Baptist Church and a veteran of the US Air Force. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Jay was a great husband, dad, grandfather, and friend who will be missed by everyone who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Dorcas Bridges Hollifield; brothers, Ernest, Grayson, Roy and Bernie Hollifield; and sisters, Marie Hart, Margaret Gilbert, Ora Bailey, Beulah Sharp, and Lula Karnas.
Jay is survived by his son, Michael J. Hollifield (Deanna); grandchildren, Audrey and Nicholas Hollifield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Friday, August 4, 2017 from 12:30 to 2:00 pm at Swannanoa Free Will Baptist Church with a Celebration of Life Service following with Rev. Jack Ward, Rev. Bobby Shehan, and Rev. Michael J. Hollifield officiating.
Burial will be at Sky View Memorial Park.
