Obituary for Jack S. Williams

Jack S. Williams of Black Mountain, passed away August 12, 2017.
Jack was born November 28, 1924 in Weaverville, NC to the late Hoke and Lettie Williams. Jack was a graduate of Weaver High School and attended Jr. College in Ellisville, MS. He served in the US Army in WWII. Jack was a member of First Baptist Church in Black Mountain for over 50 years where he served as deacon, usher, and Sunday School Secretary. He was a charter member of the Swannanoa Lions Club and recipient of Melvin Jones and Jack Stickley awards. Jack worked at Draper Corporation in Swannanoa, NC until it closed, then worked for Beacon Mfg. Co. until he retired. He volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and Meals on Wheels. Jack loved country and blue grass music and hymns, and he liked a good joke.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Alma Crowder Williams; and brothers, Fred and Homer Williams.
Jack is survived by his son, J. Douglas Williams and wife, Ethel Girvin of Timberlake, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Harwood Home for Funerals.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 12:30 pm at First Baptist Church in Black Mountain. Burial will follow at 2:00 pm at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to First Baptist Church, Black Mountain, 130 Montreat Road, Black Mountain, NC 28711.
