Obituary for Archie C. Pertiller Sr.

Archie C. Pertiller, Sr., 83, of Black Mountain passed away Saturday, October 6, 20`18.
Mr. Pertiller was born June 1, 1935 in Buncombe County to the late James and Bessie Stepp Pertiller. He graduated from Stephens Lee High School and was a Deacon of Mills Chapel Baptist Church. Archie was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired after 30 years from the Julian F. Keith Alcohol & Drug Treatment Center. He was an auxiliary member of the Black Mountain Police Department and a founding member of the Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministries. Archie was an avid sports fan and nature watcher.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Ann Pertiller and Pearl Lynch and brother, Ed Pertiller.
Mr. Pertiller is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Joyce Moore Pertiller; sons, Archie Pertiller, Jr (Angela), Arthur Pertiller (Kimberly) and Bobby Hill (Ilene); sisters, Myra Pertiller, Mary Owens, and Barbara Hawkins; brother, Charles Pertiller (Sheila); grandchildren, Jennifer Berry, Melanie Scales, Adrienne Weir (Stephen), Renee Vessels (Jim), Machelle Gamble, Arlisa Pertiller, Arthur C. Pertiller, Jr., Sophia Pertiller and Maggie Pertiller; 17 great grandchildren; special Goddaughters and Godson, Margaret Stafford, Sheila Showers, Kelly Penncy, Martha Carpenter, and Keith Sherrill.
A Celebration of Life Service will be Thursday, October 11, 2018 at 1:00m at Mills Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:00 to 1:00pm prior to the service at the church.
At other times, the family will be at the residence.
