Obituary for William Alexander "Bill" McKenzie

William “Bill” Alexander McKenzie, 93, of Fairview, passed away Monday, November 5, 2018.
Mr. McKenzie was born January 14, 1925 in Buncombe County to the late Henry and Bonnie Sorrells McKenzie. He was a veteran of the US Marines, serving during World War II and a member of Victory Fellowship Church. Bill loved gardening and sharing it with the neighbors. He also loved listening to Christian music. He was a enthusiast of Native Americans and participated in Indian dances and pow-wows.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by the mother of his children, Patricia McKenzie; wife, Opal Wood McKenzie; and eight siblings.
He is survived by his children, Mary Owensby (Ronald), Bonnie Vess (Harry), Grace Arbogast, Patricia McKenzie, Lydia Heintz (Gregg), William Alexander McKenzie, Jr. (Bea), Henry McKenzie, and Margaret Hamilton (Brian); 22 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, November 9, 2018 at 1:00pm in the chapel of Harwood Home for Funerals with Rev. Sonia Burleson officiating. Burial will follow in Cane Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time at the funeral home.
