Obituary for Betty Jo Lane

Betty Jo Lane, 81, of Black Mountain, passed away December 6, 2018.
Mrs. Lane was born May 27, 1937 in Mississippi and lived most of her life in Black Mountain. She retired from Ethan Allen and was a member and Deaconess of Thomas Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. She was a volunteer with New Mercies Afterschool Program and was listed as a spiritual mother on the board of “About My Father’s Business Ministry”.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Katie Selmon and sister, Rose Williams.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Rochelle Daniel, Machelle Lane, Tonya Tillman and Sherone Lane; father, Fred Lane; sister, Hazel Smith; brothers, Bo Selmon, Calvin Selmon, Charles Selmon, and George Selmon; grandchildren, Dachelle Johnson, Shamiya Tillman, MarKeisha Johnson, Deshawn Moore, Kiara Moore, and Sierra Lane; great granddaughter, Akilah Tillman; special cousin, Delorse “Lucy” Montgomery; a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews; adopted daughters, Darlene Meyers, Daphne Dupont, Jeannine Ashbury; adopted son, Nick and special church family at Isight Church; special church family at Mills Chapel Baptist Church and GetReady International Outreach Church; best friends, Patsy Davidson and Whitney “Ms. Whit” Wilkins
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Thomas Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 pm prior to the service at the church.
