James Robert Allen, 90, of Asheville, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014.
Mr. Allen was born December 14, 1923 in Buncombe County and retired from Kearfott after 22 ½ years. He was a veteran of the US Army, a member of Berea Baptist Church, and he loved to garden.
Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Nairm Houston and Margaret Garland Allen; wife, Verlie Inez Allen; son, Douglas Neal Allen; grandson, Brandon Allen Lingelbach; sisters, Ila A. Stone and Norma Bustle; and a brother, John W. Allen who died in the line of duty in WWII.
Surviving are his daughters, Linda A. Davis (Joe) of Asheville and Vickie A. Smith (Gary) of Kentucky; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.
A celebration of life service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2014 in the chapel of Harwood Home for Funerals with the Reverend Ken Sausedo officiating. Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday following the service at the funeral home.
