Obituary for Mary Odell Duckett

Mary Odell  Duckett
Mary Odell Duckett, 93, passed peacefully into eternity after a long illness on August 14, 2014 at her residence.
Mrs. Duckett was born September 21, 1920. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Emerson D. and Dora Settles Lee. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Gorden F. Duckett, Sr., brother, E.D. Lee, Jr., and sister, Dorothy L. Buckner.
Surviving are her son, Gorden Francis “Frank” Duckett, Jr. (Susan) of Fairview and daughter, Pamela Henry (Spergion); granddaughters, Elizabeth Lee Martin (Jonathan) of Charleston, SC and Julie Barker (Ronnie) of Sylva; grandson, David Henry (Debbie) of Charlotte; six great grandchildren, Cassidy, Taylor, Marisa, Alex, Jordan, and Ryder; and one great-great granddaughter, Laylah; brother, John D. Lee (Arlene) of Asheville.
She was one of the first employees at CP Clare and retired from there. Her husband, Gorden, started AAA Parts of Asheville in 1968. After his death, she retained ownership in that company and AAA Auto Parts of Biltmore. She was a long-time member of Oakley Baptist Church, active in the church serving as Sunday school teacher of the Faithful Workers Sunday School class. She enjoyed many trips with the Senior Crusaders. Her favorite past-times were crocheting, needlework and singing.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Oakley Baptist Church on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at 3:00pm with Reverends Tom Pierce and Dan Anderson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Emma’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to Care Partners Hospice. Their special care and support was a Godsend. Special thanks to our angel Barbara, and her nurse, Susan, her CNA’s, and Becky and Sabrina.
