Obituary for James Howard Allen

James Howard  Allen
James Howard Allen, 83, of Asheville, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at his home following a long battle with lung cancer, with his family by his side.
Born September 2, 1931 in Barnardsville, he was the son of the late Howard W. Allen and Ruth M. Rockett. He attended Swannanoa School. He was employed by Sayles Biltmore Bleacheries for 40 years as a supervisor and as Vice President of the local union. He retired from Kearfott Guidance & Navigation.
He attended Azalea Church of God in Oteen. He was saved and baptized in Wilmington, NC by the Reverend Jerome Bullard. He was a devoted member of the Masonic Lodge #561 in Swannanoa for 46 years.
Mr. Allen was inducted into the Armed Forces of the US Marine Corps on January 3, 1952. He served in the Korean Conflict. James received the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on December 31, 1953.
His passions in life were his loving wife of 61 years, Mary; his family, his dog, Missy, and hunting. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and was an expert rifleman. James was also a lifetime member of the Big Branch Hunting Club in Wilmington, NC where he was known as “Paw-Paw” to all.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Allen and his sister, Grace Ingle.
Mr. Allen is survived by his four daughters, Cynthia Allen (Gary Cody), Deborah Ogle (Mark Ogle), Pamela Fuertes (Tony Fuertes), and Paula Hudson (Jeffrey Hudson) all of Asheville; grandchildren, Crystal Gasperson, Jason Dodd, Amber Anderson, Mark “Jordan” Ogle, James Fuertes, John Knighten, and Randa Glenn; great grandchildren, Laurel Kohutek, Isaiah Gasperson, Sarah Gasperson, Bishop Anderson, Maya Harrison, Marjorie Ogle, Jason “Riley” Dodd, Faith Knighten, Madalyn Knighten, Hannah Peek, and, “his little buddy”, Hunter Rathbone. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
James was loved very much by his family and friends and will be dearly missed.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm, Friday, September 19, 2014 at Azalea Church of God with Rev. Jerome Bullard and Rev. Larry T. Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Sky View Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
