Katherryn Lee Deane Burgess, lifelong resident of WNC, went home to be with Jesus Wednesday, January 7, 2015.
Katherryn was born in McDowell County (Old Fort) on July 14, 1921, the first born daughter to Melvin and Cora Deane. She moved to Black Mountain in 1945 as the new bride of Austin B. Burgess, who passed away in 1984.
She worked for many years in the cafeteria of Black Mountain Primary School and later with the Foster Grandparent Association. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Black Mountain where she spent many hours loving and caring for her beloved babies in the church nursery.
Katherryn is preceded in death by her son, Richard Burgess; brother, Hugh Deane; sisters, Jo Webb and Louise Snyder.
Surviving are her children, Cheryl Edwards (Alan) and Brent Burgess (Wanda); seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church, Black Mountain with Dr. T. David Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
The family would like to thank the caregiving angels at Asheville Healthcare who loved her tenderly for 11 years. Also to Four Seasons Hospice whose professionalism and compassion provided much care and comfort.
