Obituary for Mae Raines Vandergrift

Mae Raines  Vandergrift
Mae Raines Vandergrift, 91, of Black Mountain, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015.
Mae was born May 11, 1923 in Haywood County. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse W. Vandergrift; parents, Columbus and Elizabeth Greene Raines; brother, Jimmie Raines; and sister, Alice Barnwell.
She is survived by her brothers, Jack Raines (Sarah); Johnny Raines (Jane); sisters, Martha and Shirley Raines all of Black Mountain; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Mae worked most of her life as a Government Inspector at locations in Greensboro, NC and Arlington, VA. She loved to share her many life experiences with family and friends in a most entertaining way. Her generous spirit was her mantra in life – giving to others was her joy.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, January 18, 2015 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Harwood Home for Funerals with the Reverend James Lamb officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
Interment will be Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
