Andrew C. "AC"  Ownbey
Andrew Cornelious “AC” Ownbey, Jr., 80 of Black Mountain passed away Monday, July 20, 2015.
He was the son of Andrew Cornelious, Sr. and Fannie Crawford Ownbey, the youngest of eight children.
Mr. Ownbey retired from Charles D. Owen High School as special education teacher. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Black mountain where he served as a member of the choir; on various committees, as a trustee, and member and chair of the deacon body at various times. He was instrumental in the church’s becoming involved in various mission activities including trips to Princeville, NC and Nada, KY. Mr. Ownbey participated in gleaning through the Society of St. Andrew. He was a member of the initial Steering Team of the Western North Carolina Baptist Fellowship (formerly Network) and served as chair for a three-year term.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Naomi Ruth Ownbey Summey and Mary Sue Ownbey Harris; and brothers, Clarence and Franklin Owenby and Hardy M. Ownbey.
Mr. Ownbey is survived by his wife, Anne Shackelford Ownbey; daughter, Becky Anne Ownbey Smith (John) of Black Mountain; sons, David Andrew Ownbey of Black Mountain and Mark Alan Ownbey (Jeannie) of Morganton; grandchildren, Lena Hope, Forest Alan, Talus Andrew, and Amanda Faith Ownbey all of Morganton; sisters, Rhoda Ownbey Nesbitt and Avilene Ownbey Davis Morris; sisters-in-law, Inez Ownbey and Myrtle Owenby; brothers-in-law, Harvey (Beth) Shackelford and Carey (Jan) Shackelford; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday, July 23, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Harwood Home for Funerals.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, August 2, 2015 at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church, Black Mountain with Reverends David Rayburn and Bill Henderson officiating.
Arrangements are in the care of Harwood Home for Funerals.
