Myrna May Jariwala, 86, died peacefully on May 1, 2016. She had enjoyed living at Highland Farms Retirement Community in Black Mountain for the past two years. During her lifetime she was a daughter, sister, nun, mother, wife, homemaker, school teacher, and mentor. She had an intellectual curiosity with a deep interest in politics, particularly regarding the advancement of women’s rights and civil rights. She had a passion for teaching and helping children with learning disabilities. During retirement she was a literacy volunteer.
Myrna was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on May 1, 1930 to Earl and Lenora Carlson. She attended Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She married the late Robert Pear, Sr. and lived in Hammondsport, New York for 23 years. She lived in India for 8 years with her late husband Praveen Jariwala, where they both taught school and traveled. She was a resident of Pinehurst, North Carolina for 19 years during her retirement years.
She is survived by her sister Mary Lou Stumpf; six children- Michael Pear, Brian Pear, James Pear, Robert Pear, Jr., Kathleen Kobus, and Maya Peninger; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at Highland Farms Retirement Community Assembly Room in Black Mountain on Monday, May 9th at 1:30 pm.
