Obituary for Glenna June Kluttz (Byrd)

Glenna June Byrd Kluttz, 86, of Black Mountain, NC died Sunday, July 3, 2016. She was born on June 5, 1930 in White Pine, TN to Bacchus Bright Byrd and June Laughridge Byrd. Glenna is survived by her husband of 63 years John A. Kluttz of Black Mountain, NC; her sister Mrs. Mary F. Stephens of Black Mountain, NC; and her brother James S. Byrd of Orlando, FL. Other surviving family to include her children: Cathy Kluttz-Hile, Nancy K. Hudson and her husband Richard, John E. Kluttz and his wife Leslie, and Jimmy Kluttz and his wife Libby; grandchildren: Barrett Kluttz and his wife Stephanie, Mary Elizabeth Hudson, Margaret H. Cameron and her husband Corey, Martha J. Hudson and adopted granddaughter Victoria K. Bunch, Emily R. Kluttz, and Grace C. Kluttz; and great-grandchildren: Olivia J. Kluttz, Dylan R. Kluttz, Hayden J. Kluttz, Alexa A. Kluttz, Avery K. Cameron, and Tucker G. Cameron. Many loved nieces and nephews also survive her. Glenna was preceded in death by her parents and brothers B.B. Byrd Jr. and Jack L. Byrd.
Mrs. Kluttz, as her fourth graders knew her, retired from Black Mountain Primary School after 23 years of teaching. She was a proud graduate of the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina, known today as the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. A lover of North Carolina history and literature, Glenna was devoted to Black Mountain United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, various Bridge clubs, the Black Mountain Tea and Topic Club, and the women of her social world that she respected, uplifted, and supported.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Glenna’s honor may be made to Black Mountain United Methodist Church. A service in memoriam of Glenna’s life will be held at Black Mountain United Methodist Church on Wednesday July 6, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Family members will receive guests immediately following the service.
