Memories of Josh
Jeff and I fondly remember some 20 years ago when a tall thin young man moved from Wisconsin to North Carolina to check out mountain life. We welcomed him into our home by sending him to the basement to live. He probably enjoyed his time down there away from his 3 young 2nd cousins, Zach, Kaleb and Seth. Our boys thought it was great to have another guy...a big guy to them...especially one who had a driver's license.
We were able to grant Josh a little privacy as he had a bed, his own bath and a den with a tv to himself down there. He would find time to play with the boys, however. They would throw the ball in the yard or build things out of Legos.
Josh seemed to get quite a few phone calls during the 9 months he lived with us. If we beat him to the phone, we noticed the voice on the other end was usually female. He would normally quietly find his way out to join a group of friends for the evening. One of their favorite pastimes was to enjoy watching Loren Lanter race.
Food seemed to disappear a lot quicker when Josh was around as well. It was a great glimpse into what the future would look like when our guys hit their teens.
Often God gives us opportunities to open our homes to others. Sometimes it's for a simple meal and other times it's for a season. Jeff and I remember fondly the season we shared with a wonderful young man who was looking for his calling in life. (It was soon determined that would be in law enforcement.) What a blessing it was to share in Josh's life if only for a short season.
Till we meet again around the Throne,
Jeff and Kelli
