Obituary for Vivian Cooley (Griffin)
Vivian Griffin Cooley, 79, of Black Mountain passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017.
Mrs. Cooley was born September 29, 1938 in Buncombe County to the late William and Louelle Griffin. She was a graduate of Montreat High School, attended Montreat College and graduated from University of North Carolina – Greensboro. She lived most of her life in Rochester, NY where she was a school teacher and accountant.
Vivian enjoyed gardening, sailing, skiing, and other outdoor activities.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son-in-law, Jim James.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Austin Craig Cooley; daughters, Mary James, Susan Crane (Chris), and Barbara Shelton (Richard); six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, November 12, 2017 at 2:00pm at Black Mountain Presbyterian Church with a reception following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Black Mountain Presbyterian Church, PO Box 39, Black Mountain, NC 28711 or Swannanoa Valley Museum, PO Box 306, Black Mountain, NC 28711.
