Condolence From: Dwain Ammons
Condolence: I was so sad the hear Philip had gone on to better things. He was at my restaurant nearly everyday in Black Mountain back in the late 80's and early 90's. He was one of the nicest and kindest people that I have known.
He mentored me as a young business owner along with Mike Sobol and Chris Papas. Philip always had something positive to say about almost everything and everybody.
Rest in peace Philip and my best to your loving family.

Condolence: I have many fond memories of Philip and the Garlands - as neighbors down the street, classmates and friends.
Philip and my brother, Bill, spent many hours together as young friends, frequently coming back from the creek by Black Mtn. Elementary School soaking wet, as they somehow "fell" into the creek while playing there. Philip, with that sparkle in his eye and half smile on his face, would quickly explain to my mother what happened. And my mother, to my surprise, would immediately accept his explanation. She always liked Philip - he made her smile.
And so, with a heavy heart, I express condolences to all the family from my brother, Bill, my sister, Betty, and myself. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you during this sad time.
